You know the drill, the scene isn’t what you thought it was going to be. Must be something there. From a recent scouting trip to Smoky Mountains National Park.

ISO 100, 1/15 (-1.0) @ f/22.0 – 123mm
Technique And Composition:
As you might have guessed from the description, this is searching for something in a scene that just didn’t measure up.
I really liked the pattern and repetition of the water as it went over the damn, very uniform, made a nice perpendicular to the dam itself.
I worked the top of the dam as the diagonal across the frame and made sure to use a polarizer on the surface of the retaining canal, so I could get some texture and color in it.
It’s worth noting here, I set my aperture to f/22. I don’t really think that f/22 was visually necessary, but I was wanting to slow the shutter speed down some more.
