A Shot A Day – 2018(LMM) (02/07/2018)
Sometimes you just grab shots where you can. While driving to our host town for an upcoming Glacier National Park Workshop, I noticed this field of gorgeous horses amongst all this tall prarie grass. Along comes this beautiful farm dog, likely just doing his job and guarding his horses, and an image was born.

Technique And Composition:
Part of the beauty of this image is its simplicity. There are really only two (2) components to it, the dog, and the sky.
It was important to divide the frame into three (3) sections both horizontally and vertically. The dog is carefully aligned on the right most thirds intersection line, and there is plenty of negative space for both him to move into and for the viewer’s eye to follow. It’s important to avoid cramped space when a subject is looking into that area.
Last, but not least, I used a wider aperture to keep the creamy depth of field that you see here.
