A Shot A Day – 2016 (02/18/2016)
Spent some time in the studio recently working on lighting technique and some effects lighting. Seems like the shadows and lines would be simple, but they can be a challenge.
Canon EOS 5DS R, Canon EF85mm f/1.2 II USM
ISO 200 – 1/200 @ f/2.8 – 85mm
2X Profoto D1 Air 1000 (20 degree grid),
1X Profoto B1 Air 500 (2 X 3 OCF Softbox),
2X Profoto B2 Air 250 (10 degree grid)
In this image, I am using a home built divider box with a mini-blind mounted inside the box as a gobo / flag.
The 2 – 1000ws lights are placed at a distance of about 20’ from the gobo / flag to create the shadow lines. The model needs to maintain close proximity to the blinds in order for the shadow lines to be prominent.
The additional lights are used as either very subtle fill light from the model side of the gobo / flag, or as spot kickers.
