“Speaking In Tongues III”

Okay this will be the last Orchid image for a while, but I just couldn’t resist. The Orchids are back at the Franklin Park Conservatory and so am I.

A Shot A Day – 2016(B) (035A of 365)-(04-02)

Canon 5DSR, Canon MP-E65mm 1-5X Macro

ISO 1600 – 1/100 @ f/16

Canon MT-24EX Macro Flash, 2X Sto-Fen MT-24EX Diffusers

In this image I have significantly increased the ISO in comparison to the last two I have shared. I was looking to register more of the ambient light (and thus the green foliage in the background) than I was in those two shots.

The resulting image gives me a softer colored background as a result. I am a huge fan of controlling the ambient background in macro shots at will, I feel it gives me another layer of creative control, without having to bring anything extra with me.

Natural by-product of increasing the ISO is the need to dial back the power of the flashes. I am a firm believer in Manual Exposure mode, makes setting these shots up a lot easier.
