A Shot A Day – 2016 (01/06/2016)

“Centerline”

I tend to look for leading lines and symmetry in a lot of my work, as I find that visually engaging. This shot of the Roebling Bridge in Cincinnati fits that bill nicely.

Canon EOS 5DS R, Canon EF 11-24 f/F USM

ISO 400 – (1/60, 1/250, 1/1000) @ f/16 – 11mm

There are a few components involved in getting this shot. First of all, once I decided upon the scene and the symmetry I wanted in that scene, I needed to make sure my photo assistant was monitoring the traffic coming from my backside. This is not done without questioning “have I been nice to this person lately?”, hey you never know. Prior to taking the shot I evaluated the scene and knew that I was dealing with a dynamic range issue. That being taken into account, I shot this as a three (3) frame bracket (one at 2 stops under, one at the middle exposure reading and one at two stops over). I first processed the three individual frames to an HDR image with NIK’s HDR Efex Pro 2 and then processed that result into a Black & White in NIK’s Silver Efex Pro 2.
